Lorig's History

Lorig’s established its first retail store in 1932 in downtown Colorado Springs. Previous to this date the Lorig family had been in the wholesale dry good business selling to the mining camps and Indian trading posts in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.

The store sold work clothes, mens and boys clothing, hats, and uniforms. During World War II it was one of the largest sellers of nurses uniforms in the state and through out the country by mail. As Colorado Springs grew, so did business and the store expanded at its 107 South Tejon Street location.

Following the war, the store added western wear to their merchandise mix and catered to tourists and visitors to dude ranches in the rocky mountain region. Local ranchers also flocked to Lorig’s and made the store their shopping choice. With the Levi’s craze in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, Lorig’s was the top seller of that brand in the state. Work boots and western boots continued to grow in importance, as dress and non-western items became a smaller part of the mix as dress trends dictated.

Store Expands

The store moved to a larger location downtown on the corner of Tejon Street and Colorado Avenue in 1977. Around this timework clothes and uniform sales became the dominant category as contracts with the Colorado Springs Fire department and Colorado Springs Police department were in effect.

Harold Eichenbaum joined the firm in 1970 as manager, and re-merchandised the store to better reflect the trends and customer desires at the time of shopping mall growth. In 1985 Eichenbaum bought out the remaining interest from the Lorig family and became sole owner of the store.

New Location

In June 2004 Lorig’s opened in a new location just east of the central business district at 15 N. Union Blvd., its current location. With the store near the intersection of Union and Pikes Peak Avenue, it is easy to get to, and free on site parking is available.

The experienced and trained staff in the store is dedicated to excellent customer service, while the merchandise mix features modern and traditional styles in western wear, boots, and hats; as well as a full line of work clothes and career apparel.
